My
uncle not only runs Packard cabinetry he also restores antique furniture, boats, and yachts. The companies he runs are Packard Cabinetry and Packard Boat Restoration. He is a master woodworker and restorer of antique
items.
His team is made up of two main installers, Fillipo, Christopher,
himself, his partner Rick, his wife, Rae, who is a certified kitchen and bathroom
designer, a finisher and sander, Carlos, his accountant, Trish, a secretary, Paige,
and a helper and driver Gil. This morning, I worked with Gil. We picked
up an antique dining room buffet from a customer's house. After this, I worked
with Fillipo and Christopher to finish the job we had started yesterday with
the radiator covers and desk (pictures below).

After this, around 12:30, my uncle
John and I went to visit a client where we removed two cabinets because the
owner wanted different ones so they could get a different dishwasher. From
there, we went back to the showroom where Gil picked me up and we went to the
workshop to wait for a delivery of parts and things customers ordered for a job
we have tomorrow. We loaded them into the shop and went back to the showroom.
I
worked around the office for two or three hours learning how the business end
of Packard Cabinetry is run. My uncle's partner, Rick, is a computer guy and
very smart. He designed the machine below.
Mr. Wright would probably be beyond
fascinated with this device because what it does is cuts the big piece of
wood into a panel front for a door or cabinet via computer images that are
transmitted to the machine via a simple modem. Then, a drill is moved along the Anna
track which is connected to the grid system. The drill then drills into the wood
and the motor carries it along the grid system according to how it's laid out
on the computer. Then, it cuts the exact design of the computer and creates into the
piece of wood, making the cabinet panel. This reduce labor costs extremely
and also cuts down on the amount of people needed on the workforce at any given
time. Carlos' main job is to sand and polish off with finisher and paint the
panels that Rick programs the computers to cut.
