Day 4, April 11: Yellow Springs Farm
Today we had to do the morning milking.
We moved the goats up to a fenced in area by the milk room, and started to milk
them, five at a time. One of the goats, Twinkle, has an injury in her mouth and
is being injected with medicine.Because of that, we had to hand milk her. When
the milking was finished, we weighed the milk. We had gotten 108 pounds of milk
which was a big improvement from the previous time we milked!
When the milking was finished, we put hay in the goats' feeder, filled up their buckets with fresh water, and let them out into the field.
We headed over to the barn on Hollow road where we fed the kids that were there. We also had the chance to play with all of them! While there, we clipped one of the goats (shaved her udders) and cut her nails, then we headed back.
Back at Yellow Springs Farm, we mucked out the goats
stalls. One of the stalls had not been mucked out in a while and it took a lot
of work, but we finally got it clean! We also helped Sheryl cut a few of the
goats fingernails.
