Today was our first day in our practicum with Janell Wysock. Janell is a fabric artist/designer who has a studio in Philly which we attend daily. The studio is small and has a nice loft and two large windows. The space is filled with knitted pieces of clothing, multiple looms of different sizes and numerous yarns and colors used to weave on them fill the shelves.
On the first day Janell told Pia and I that we would be working on a recycled plastic bag project in collaboration with a lady (in the same building), Andrea, who reupholsters antique chairs and makes them her own art. We will be (and are) making the fabric to go on these chairs.
We started out cutting plastic bags into loops and linking them together while organizing them by color. We worked on this pretty much all day taking a lunch break and also visiting a couple artists in the building.
